Blue    Star    Families               OPERATION  POSTCARD

Please join the Blue Star Families in sending messages of appreciation and support to our troops at home and abroad. Blue Star Families is a support group for family members and friends of men and women serving in the US Armed Forces. Our group mails postcards, letters and cards year round with our primary focus being "Happy Birthday, USA" for 4th of July, and "Holiday Greetings" in December.

OPERATION POSTCARD 2004 schedule is:
Please send your cards and letters via the pony to June Smith in Central Office by November 1, 2004 as mail can take two weeks or more to reach our troops overseas.  If you have any questions, contact me at 296-5820 orjsmith3@albemarle.org. I will deliver them to the Blue Star Families for mailing.

Here is how you can support Operation Postcard:

  1. Ask your family, friends, schools, clubs, and organizations to write encouraging, positive and supportive messages to our soldiers. It is nice to make each note a little unique so no two are the same!
  2. Once your cards are ready, DO NOT STAMP them. Send them to us and we will mail your cards and unsealed letters in packets with a special note to share. We always welcome postage donations or stamps to support our efforts. Since we do not address individual cards, messages can we written across the entire postcard.
  3. Encourage children to create their own cards, perhaps as a classroom project. Simply use 4 X 6 index cards, draw a picture on one side and write a message on the other. Also, 8 X 11 inch card stock can be cut into quarters and used as cards. Handmade cards are always special and very much appreciated. The fronts of old greeting cards can be cut off and used as cards too.
  4. Ideas for beginning your message are: "Dear Service Person", " Dear Soldier", "Dear US Protector", "Hello from . . . (your Town, State)". It is always nice to tell a little about yourself and where you live.
  5. Teachers, please edit the cards and letters. Pull any that have inappropriate language or tone. We need the troops to receive positive messages.

Our troops do appreciate your acknowledgment of support and gratitude for their service in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Please make a difference - even one postcard can bring a smile to a service man or woman serving somewhere across this globe. Thank you from our red, white and blue hearts!!!
